Every year on May 14 it is celebrated with great pomp the liberation of Komotini. This day the Municipality of Komotini organizes a multi-day cultural events titled “Eleftheria of Thrace”. More specifically, the events last about two weeks. Some of the events which are included in Eleftheria are concerts, exhibitions, art exhibitions, shadow theatre etc.
