One of the most significant cultural events on Thassos is the Tradition Festival, which kicked off in the summer of 2017, thanks to the initiative of the Hellenic Folklore Research Centre (KE.L.E.). Since 1995, KE.L.E. has been a dynamic force in the cultural scene, committed to studying and promoting Greek folklore and traditions both in Greece and internationally. From the start, the festival has enjoyed strong support from local groups and associations on the island, particularly from the Cultural Association of Limenaria, known as “To Kastro”. The main goal of the festival is to bring together cultural associations and dance groups from around the country, encouraging the exchange of ideas and experiences within a vibrant dance circle. What unites all participants is their shared passion for preserving and promoting traditions, particularly through the art of dance. Additionally, the festival allows visitors and participants to immerse themselves in the beauty and cultural heritage of Thassos. A key highlight is the opportunity to visit the Limenaria monument, the Palataki, as part of efforts to raise awareness about its preservation. With its impressive success so far, the Thassos Festival has become the island's official 'dance invitation' drawing dance groups and associations from all over Greece.
